Experience: Thomas M. Coester is a registered patent attorney with extensive experience in a broad range of intellectual property matters including acquisition, protection and monetization. Tom has successfully prosecuted hundreds of patents and trademarks in more than forty-five jurisdictions including throughout the European Community and Asia. He has counseled large corporations, start-up companies, and individuals on developing, building, and maintaining intellectual property portfolios, both domestically and internationally.
Tom has negotiated and drafted licensing agreements between rights holders and fortune 500 companies. Tom has also facilitated the sale of various intellectual property assets. Tom has conducted proactive threat analyses to protect companies from infringement claims and piracy. He has counseled clients on effective risk mitigation; both offensive and defensive. Tom has also conducted trademark cancellation and opposition proceedings in multiple jurisdictions.
Tom has conducted domestic and international seminars in the areas of claims drafting practice, patent prosecution, trademark usage and licensing.
Education: With a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Iowa, Tom has an ideal background to handle a wide range of intellectual property matters.
