The Daily Beast recently published an article about the man who reviews every beer label application filed with the Tax and Trade Bureau of the U.S. Treasury Department. The article discusses some of the reasons this man, Kent Martin, nicknamed “Battle” has rejected beer labels. Companies are often frustrated when they are forced to change the name of a particular beer or, in some cases, their entire company, so late in the process. The article makes for an interesting, even funny read and highlights an important lesson for businesses: Be thoroughly acquainted with the relevant regulations for advertising your goods or services at the beginning of the process and make sure you get good brand and trademark advice before you print any labels.
