British photographer David Slater was traveling in Indonesia when a crested black macaque snatched his camera and snapped a “selfie”. The picture made rounds in social media and sparked a fascinating legal battle when it was published on the “selfie” entry of Wikipedia. Slater claimed he owned the copyright to the photograph and requested the portrait be removed. Wikipedia denied his request, stating that he could not own the copyright since he did not take the picture (the monkey did).
